about
The needs are great but we are greater!
Downloading this song supports Heartland Alliance's National Immigrant Justice Center (NIJC) in their important and on-going work on behalf of immigrants, refugees and asylum seekers who are at risk in our society.
The Song
I wrote "On the Borderline" thinking about the struggles of our brothers and sisters living on both sides of the U.S./Mexican border. Though the song is really about all of us - living right where we are - within borders geographic and borders of our own choosing.
"On the Borderline" asks listeners to consider the plight of "the other," whoever and wherever they may be and to think about what it would be like to walk in their shoes. It is my hope, that in some small way this song can help even one heart, one mind (mine included) more fully aspire to increasingly compassionate possibilities there for every one of us. I am grateful to have found this way to connect and offer support through the sharing of my music. I hope that you will download, enjoy and take-to-heart this song and pass it along as yet another way to help raise funds for NIJC while raising consciousness - keeping in mind the dignity of all and our common humanity.
The National Immigrant Justice Center
Heartland Alliance's National Immigrant Justice Center (NIJC) is dedicated to ensuring human rights protections and access to justice for all immigrants, refugees and asylum seekers.
With offices in Chicago, Indiana, and Washington, D.C., NIJC provides direct legal services to and advocates for these populations through policy reform, impact litigation, and public education. Since its founding three decades ago, NIJC has been unique in blending individual client advocacy with broad-based systemic change.
Partnering with the legal community and thanks to the support of hundreds of pro bono attorneys from the nation's leading law firms, NIJC has made critical advances in the lives of hundreds of thousands of vulnerable immigrants, refugees and asylum seekers. NIJC provides legal services to more than 10,000 individuals each year and maintains a success rate of 90 percent in obtaining asylum for those fleeing persecution in their home countries. NIJC and its pro bono attorneys have been on the vanguard of federal impact litigation and advocacy, setting positive precedents for those seeking human rights protections within our borders.
The Download Campaign
In this spirit and recognizing the indispensable service and life-changing work the NIJC does on behalf of immigrants, I am donating 60 percent of all net downloads ($2.00 per download - less the fees from this website and credit card fees). Of course, if you would like to donate more, please go for it! Everything counts! And it is not necessary that you have a Paypal account.
I believe in the work and mission of The National Immigrant Justice Center. I believe in the power of music the message of "On the Borderline." I believe together we can make the difference. Thank you for your support!
Sincerely,
Daniel Connolly
lyrics
Lyrics
On the borderline where so many things are real
Here the innocents have so little to reveal
Come to work for food come to save a family
On the borderline where you're anything but free
Chorus
Is this how we go on living
How we make our lives complete
All this taking and no giving
Hurting you hurting me - doesn't have to be
Can't you see
On the borderline they've got all the ways and means
In the grand design you're just living in between
It's a long hard climb you can't stay and you can't leave
On the borderline when you're anything but free
Chorus
On the borderline face to face down on your knees
Could be yours or mine when you're anything but free

Singer-songwriter Daniel Connolly's words and music conspire to connect us in our shared experience.
His songs
encourage us to let our imagination run. While Americana may be the closest category for description, his music is his own - at once borrowing from the canon and then some. So if you please, have a listen while letting the aforementioned imagination run!...more
